Introduction to Transit Service Planning
This course seeks to have participants understand the public transit service planning process from concept design thru service implementation to service evaluation. By the end of the course, participants will be able to undertake conceptual service planning including service design/redesign, routing and scheduling, stop design, transit service budgeting and resource allocation, and calculating levels of service and capacity. While the course focuses primarily on bus operations for illustrative examples, practitioners from other modes such as: heavy/rapid rail, light rail, paratransit, microtransit and water based transit will be able apply the concepts covered to their respective mode.
NOTE: Participants are encouraged to bring a calculator (or a cell phone with calculator capabilities) to this course.
