U of A Wins $13M Federal Grant to Upgrade Razorback Transit Fleet

The University of Arkansas has received a $13.17 million federal grant to help Razorback Transit replace aging buses and paratransit vehicles, and add new vehicles to meet rising demand at its rapidly growing 34,000 student Fayetteville campus.

The funding comes from the Federal Transit Administration, which announced nearly $2 billion for 165 transit projects nationwide. U of A was the only Arkansas recipient in this round of fiscal 2025–26 awards. The grant is part of FTA’s Buses and Bus Facilities Program, which supports transit vehicle and facility upgrades, as well as its low- and no-emission initiatives.

Adam Waddell, Director for Razorback Transit, thanked local and federal leaders for their support:

“We are grateful for the support from Senator John Boozman, Senator Tom Cotton, Congressman Steve Womack, as well as Fayetteville Mayor Molly Rawn, and the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission. This is a great investment in the future of public transit in Northwest Arkansas. It is nice to be recognized on a national level for the work being done here at the University of Arkansas and Razorback Transit to improve public transit for our community.”
